"My Favorite Holiday Recipe”
Christmas is truly my favorite holiday. I love driving around at night and seeing all the houses lit up with lights and candles in the windows. Not only do I love the decorations and Christmas trees, but I love the smells of the season. My favorite, hands down, is the aroma of my Nana’s famous Swedish tea rings.
Nana is the only one in our family who has mastered the art of making the pastry. She has baked them every Christmas for as long as I can remember. Others have tried, but none taste the same as Nana’s. I’m not sure if it’s because we really aren’t Swedish or we just don’t have her touch. Both my mom and sister have tried making it, but are never satisfied with the results. I have yet to attempt to make it, but need to try.
Needless to say that every year, we look forward to walking into her house on Christmas morning and being swept away with the sweet smells of cinnamon, brown sugar and raisins baking in the oven. Everyone in my immediate and extended family lines up with plate in-hand to get one of the first slices. It melts in your mouth and is usually gone in a matter of minutes.
